Why should my employees have School FEAST training?
School food is changing. School cooks and the wider school food workforce need to be more knowledgeable about ingredients, more creative in the kitchen and more aware of the wider factors influencing school meal take-up than ever before.
This follows the recent landmark in the transformation of school food with the introduction of mandatory nutrient-based standards. It complements the need to consider and improve the dining experience as a whole.
With the emphasis on healthier ingredients and cooking from scratch, the standards have meant for some, though by no means all, a radical change to their job.
The School FEAST network plays a key role in enhancing the skills of the food workforce within thousands of schools across the country, to help ensure more children eat a healthy lunch every day.
Designed so that an average school lunch contains the correct levels of energy and 13 nutrients, these standards are the final phase of a five-year programme of change in schools across England. For more information on the nutrient-based standards, please visit the School Food Trust website.
