About Us

Cumbria County Council and the four local colleges of further education have formed the Cumbria FEAST Partnership to deliver training to kitchen staff and relevant Key Stage 4 vocational courses in Cumbria. Schools pay for the training from their delegated formula budgets. The bulk of training will be provided on the school site by peripatetic chefs who are employed by the colleges. The peri chefs will also promote the ideals of Food in Schools. The Cumbria FEAST Partnership will consult with the Balanced Eating Group, which has representatives from the Health Authority, Healthy Schools Advisors, the Local Authority, Colleges, Schools and School Meal Providers. The Balanced Eating Group debates Food in School policy and its views will be passed to schools through the local self-help groups of schools. The training programme will be linked to person specifications of kitchen staff with the aim of achieving a fully qualified workforce over the next few years. Access to quality training for adults as well as pupils is seen as an opportunity to give social, economic and environmental benefit to the community of Cumbria.
